A delegation from the University of Zakho participated in a summer school in Germany

 A delegation from the University of Zakho participated in a summer school in Germany entitled " Strengthening Inclusive Education in Iraqi Primary Schools" organized by the University of Vechta in Germany in August 2022.

The course took place at Vechta University, the delegate consisted of Dr. Hariwan Zikri Ibrahim and Ms. Berivan Mohammed Ahmed. Participants from the University of Zakho had a very active role in the course and all the discussions held.

The main focus of the course was on the innovative and modern subjects, methods, and strategies of learning in Digital and Inclusive: Innovative Teacher Training for Primary School Teachers in Iraq. The project strives to build and consolidate a network between actors in teacher education from the University of Vechta and five other teacher training universities in Iraq and the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan. Within this network, teacher training for inclusion in general schools is the focus. It is about improving the technical, (special) educational, and didactic skills of Iraqi/Kurdish university teachers.

The training consisted of 10 workshops which are the following:

  • Increasing skills in the field of inclusive education
  • Dealing with diversity and promoting equity in Primary Schools: Approaches internationally compared
  • Empowering Inclusion Through School Development (Two-Part course).
  • Empowering to Design E-Learning Units for Inclusion
  • Realizing inclusive Education: Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
  • Classroom Management
  • Exploring the different facets of inclusive education
  • Introducing the LAYA platform, an Inclusive Learning Management System
  • Training Intercultural Competencies

It is worth mentioning that the project is funded by the German DAAD organization, the participated members were granted a certificate of completion, in the presence of the President of the University of Vechta, Verena Pietzner.
